February 2014 Entry

For being the shortest month of the year, February felt like it went rather slow. But there are a few things that attributed to that. And I know I forgot a few things, ha.

=========================

- Justice League: War came out on the 4th. It was great. Definitely one of my top favorites. Read my quick thoughts about it via the link below and check out the trailer if you haven't seen it yet.

- A situation at work popped up starting around the 7th of the month. My friend/coworker was going through some personal things and it caused him to take a leave of absence from work. Although we didn't know he would be out for 3 weeks. During that time, I was asked if I could work more hours during the day (full time), but I couldn't due to my parents having car issues meaning I needed to go home after work so that they can use it if needed. But I was able to work a full week at the same hours at least instead of taking a day off as usual.

Not only was I covering from him, but I had to take on more tasks at work. That included a few more projects, doing more IT tasks (even though I'm not the best for that), and even participating in decisions and meetings. It didn't become overwhelming except for one day when I was already in the middle of doing 5 things and then was asked to do another. At that particular point, I could fully understand the pressure my friend had been going through for years at work.

Others at work were panicking due to his unforeseen long absence. I was actually asked why I wasn't working full time to begin with and was offered to work full time from now on, which I declined. To me, it was a bad spot we were in, but we weren't in any danger. We were able to carry on without him even though there were a few tasks we held off on because we just were unsure. If anything, it did show how valuable he is to the company and that they need to treat him better. He has since come back to work and I'm slowly helping him ease back into things. Glad to have him back.

We actually did have a couple of incidents at work that he wouldn't have been able to fix anyways. We had a case of smoke happening one morning. I wasn't there, but when I came in, I knew something had happened. Apparently the fire department just left before I arrived. The only victim to the smoke was a duplication tower that got fried. It wasn't that bad. The second time was worse. I was there for it. The smoke filled up the whole office this time. The fire department came again with more trucks. Our company and our neighbors all had to evacuate. The fire department did figure out it was a faulty a/c unit this time and the only victim again was a duplication tower. That lead us to rewire a lot of our electronics and have an electrician come in. Otherwise, we're fine.

- A friend of mine who loves karaoke put on another surprise birthday party for himself (on not his birthday) for the second time (not on the same day as the first). A few of us met the weekend before to plan things out. We also came up with a Valentine's Day theme. We figured it wasn't his birthday, why not make it not Valentine's Day also, ha.

The night was fun. Saw familiar faces I had not seen in a long time and met some new awesome people. I played the part of hype man throughout the night as well as the closing DJ for the final 2 hours of the night. The only sucky part of the night was that we filled the room to capacity so people had to be turned away. Although some snuck in by coming to the main room and then joining us in our room. It's a testament as to how many people love my friend and wanted to be there for him. Overall, a fun night filled with 7+ hours of karaoke.

- Something was recorded secretly on the 8th. And another secret recording is happening in March. Trying to make sure it's good and ready before letting the rest of the world know.

- Spent the weekend in Dallas on the 15th and 16th. I was worried at first because I actually was coming down with something a few days before. That and I was sick last time we were supposed to go to Dallas back in December. I waited until the day of and the time I woke up to see if I was good to go, which I felt I was. At that time, all I had was a stuffy nose so I figured I was good to go. My dad dropped me off at my friend's, we dropped her dog off, picked up another friend (who overslept, ha), and headed off to Dallas. (during this recap, I forgot the name of places we ate so they will be left out)

We first met our friend that lives in Dallas at a burger joint. Burgers were alright, but it was good to see our friend after a long time. We then went to the Dallas Aquarium. It was very crowded. We went through the line to see all the see animals first since our friend was going to leave soon for other plans.

Towards the end of the Aquarium visit, my phone malfunctioned. Not only was the touch screen not working, but my contacts were also lost. Earlier on the way to Dallas, my friend pointed out that the GPS on my phone was acting funny. I had noticed a few other odd things happening to my phone ever since swapping to a new case. Fast forward to the Aquarium, I took a photo of a white alligator and the phone craps out. For the rest of the Dallas trip, my phone was only a clock.

After parking close to our dinner location, we walked around the area and went to the supermarket. I actually bought some Dayquil and Nyquil pills because I wasn't feeling that good. The others bought things also. Then we went to our dinner location, which had another restaurant upstairs. I was actually not feeling well throughout most of the dinner. For the most part, I had my hand to my head because I wasn't feeling comfortable. Not only that, but they got my dinner order wrong. Maybe it was the stuffy nose, but the misheard "salmon" for "same as him." It was odd seeing all the staff and cooks and even the owner start bustling around. But apparently my sick mood to them was how I felt about the service and food when it wasn't. In the end, they got my order out and it was fine. To compensate for their mistake, they offered a free drink, which wasn't much. A free dessert would have been nice, but no...just a free drink, which I declined. And on the way out, one of the servers gave me a very nasty look. That cemented the fact that I would not be going back there again. I wish I remembered the name so I can let all of you reading know.

Anyways, when dinner was wrapping up, I asked if I could be dropped off at our friend's apartment since I wasn't feeling well. I figured staying out in the cold for the Lantern Festival would have made things worse. They were cool with it. It was a nice apartment for one person. We tried to get the password for his internet so I could possibly look up how to fix my phone, but he had bad reception. My friends left for the festival and I hooked up my laptop to watch Running Man. I started to fall asleep through the episode and after that, I shut everything off and was falling in and out of sleep. Friends returned hours later. Dallas friend arrived later, but we were asleep by that time.

The next day, I felt a little better. Mostly the stuffy nose similar to how Saturday started. I skipped out on the breakfast plan. Once they returned and everyone was awake, we started catching up and talking. About an hour or so later, we headed off for King Spa.

After dipping into the hot tub, I felt way better. I waited for my friend to show him around and point out stuff. Then all 3 of us went around to different saunas and just relaxed. I did start feeling blah again, but certain saunas did help with that. Our Dallas friend also joined us after soccer practice. He enjoyed the hotter saunas. He even challenged me to a push-up contest, ha. I did 20 and quit. All of them were able to stand the heat better than I so I would usually be leaving the saunas before them. I did schedule a Swedish massage again. I needed it since my body felt like hell. After that, I finally ate the fish-shaped ice cream. It was pretty much an ice cream sandwich. No complaints from me as I like both now. I think we were there for about 6-7 hours. The 3 of us left and our other friend stayed longer to relax. I also gave him my free admission pass I got again from the massage.

The 3 of us then went to eat dinner at a Korean restaurant. The service was okay...but the food was good. I had a dish that had octopus legs, but there weren't that many. After that was the night trip back to Houston. More silly talk and questions rose. Overall, great car conversation. We dropped our friend off and then continued our way back home. I think I was dropped off at home...around 10PM...maybe closer to 11. It was good to relax at home.

And the next day I figured the simple fix for my phone. Those with iPhones, if your touch screen doesn't work, shut it off. That's all I needed to do. My contacts were still lost so I had to use a backup from September. That meant I lost texts and photos. Nothing major was lost.

- February was a big wrestling month. It started on the 11th with buying the latest Shawn Michaels documentary; Mr. Wrestlemania. HBK takes a look back at all his Wrestlemania matches (minus XX) and we get to see those matches in full. I thoroughly enjoyed reliving those great moments especially HBK VS The Undertaker at Wrestlemania XXV. I highly recommend it to any hardcore HBK fan.

Then the Elimination Chamber PPV aired on the 23rd. Overall I thought it was good with the Shield VS Wyatts stealing the show. It could have ended better, but I'm still hoping for a payoff for Daniel Bryan some time soon.

And then the WWE Network launched the next day. I and a bunch of other wrestling fans had been looking forward to this on-demand service. $9.99 gives us full access to the vast library of history as well as new content live feeds and all PPVs live starting with Wrestlemania XXX. Sure, there were some issues at first, but you had to expect it. When I tried to sign up in the morning (during work), it took an hour before I could enter any information and it still didn't go through. I finally got it to work after work. I really like it. The live feed works 90% of the time, which is a very good rate. And the search works very well. The first WWE PPV I watched was Wrestlemania X-7 (from Houston), the first WCW PPV I watched was Bash At The Beach 2000 (where Jarrett laid down for Hogan), and the first ECW PPV I watched (while typing this) is ECW One Night Stand 2005 (the first one produced under WWE). And NXT ArRival was amazing. Those NXT Superstars are the future. I'm very impressed so far. The WWE Network can only get better. It's almost on in the background whenever I'm doing anything online.

=========================

- It took a lot of StreetPasses, but I finally completed all of the StreetPass Challenges in A Link Between Worlds. I haven't touched the game since then (02.05.14).

- Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Wii U) - Review
 My first Wii U game of 2014 was Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. I picked it up on the 21st, which was a Friday, and played it for about an hour. I then spent the next day beating the game. I didn't expect the game to be as short as it was. It definitely was a great game. Check out my review on it. I originally was planning to go through all the extras, but that has been put on hold for now.

- I had taken a break from playing Shadow of The Colossus. Since I was more busy, I just didn't have time for it. Things have calmed down now, but the one thing that pushed me to get back into it was that Game Grumps started a play through of it. I haven't watched their episodes, but I will once I beat it myself. So on the 26th, I took down 3 more Colossi making the total 6.

- Thanks to the popularity of Twitch Plays Pokemon, Rev3games decided to have some fun with it and do Twitch Plays Adam Sessler. I take fool credit in getting him to say "Dik Dik," getting him to eat fudge (but there was no fudge), and for getting him to staple his own penis. All callbacks to stuff he did on X-Play when it was on TechTV. It was great and hilarious.

=========================

- I find it odd that ever since last month I could only upload photos straight from Twitter sometimes. This time it almost never happened. At least I have some photos backed up to my PC already. I just wanted to have my Twitter still attached to them rather than just uploading them. It seems like I might have to just upload them from my PC from now on though. At least Miiverse photos still upload properly.

- I only bought one hat since my last blog entry, the AJ Lee hat. I don't know if I'll get more any time soon, but we shall see. Here's a look at what I've got so far and what you'll see on my head throughout the year.

- I learned about the Bean Boozled Challenge from StarSlay3r.

After talking to a few friends about it, they were also interested in trying it. So I ordered a few boxes online and received them on the 18th. I can't wait to try them out with others. It's going to destroy us, ha.
